Announcing the 3rd annual SE Portland Permaculture Convergence 2014!
at Kailash Ecovillage, 4311 SE 37th Ave, Portland OR 97202
Save the date!
Friday, Saturday, Sunday, March 28-30
Following in the footsteps paved by the Planetary Repair Institute (2012) and Fostervillage (2013), Kailash Ecovillage will host this year’s event.
Our schedule will follow a similar format to the prior 2 year’s events:
Fri., Mar. 28th (5:30pm – 9:30pm)
Sat., Mar. 29th (8:30am – 9pm)
Sun., Mar. 30th (8:30am – 3:30pm)
All experience levels are welcome – from beginners to permaculture experts.
Permaculture is the conscious design of ‘cultivated’ ecosystems that have the diversity, stability, and resilience of natural ecosystems. It is a harmonious integration of people into the landscape in such a way that the land grows in richness, productivity and aesthetic beauty.
Continuing on the momentum of the first two years, this is a special opportunity for Permies and the permaculture-curious in SE to gather together, share knowledge and skills, make connections, and inspire one another in taking the next steps in growing a regenerative culture in SE Portland and beyond.
The weekend will begin at the ecovillage Community Room on Friday, March 28th, 5:30pm, with a vegan potluck dinner. Please bring a vegan dish (no meat, dairy, eggs or honey) good for 8-12 people. After dinner and a couple short presentations we will plan the weekend organically based on what people are interested in discussing, presenting and contributing to the weekend. The format for the gathering will include discussion circles, presentations, skill-shares and hands-on projects.
We have 3 hands-on projects planned by ecovillage residents: construction and installation of 2 four-chamber bat nursery boxes, topsoil harvesting in pathways using arborist waste, and humanure composting using in a courtyard designed for eventual permitting under the new building code.
The Passive House NW Conference is being held in Portland this weekend. We are participating in their tour of passive homes. This will take place Saturday afternoon 1-4pm. Tad Everhart of Energy Trust of Oregon will be leading the tours, and you can join the tour with others.
We will wrap up on Sunday afternoon after lunch with a next-steps session and closing circle.
You may want to participate in our weekly meditation and meal session afterwards. See our ongoing events page for more details.
Vegan meals will be provided on Saturday and Sunday, and we are asking for a $35 contribution (day of event, $40). If cost is a prohibitive issue, please inquire about work-trade opportunities. (However, it appears we have enough work trade volunteers at this time.) Child-care options are undetermined at this moment. Gluten free options will be available at all meals. We will do our best to accommodate dietary preferences, so let us know.
Share the event on Facebook.
Space is quite limited, so please plan to reserve your place as soon as possible. We cannot accept registrations at the event if we have reached our space limit unless there have been cancellations.
